I haven't got any experience. But i want to know how do you deal with the fact that the maximum thickness is so small? Surely there are customers wanting to print on thicker boards, right?
Plus, my question about the ColorSpan inks for the UVR. Do they supply their own inks or use some others? And how do they behave on rigid and how on flexible substrates? I know that some inks are really awful as far as any flexibility is concerned (i've seen Zund 250 at a trade fair printing banner, where ink layer would crack and flake off if you just bent the banner a little), but on the other hand some are just awesome and you can print banners and vinyl with them.
I've worked on both the UVR and UVX and there is no other way I'd go for the price. It's funny, because the market we deal with in Seattle doesn't have a huge need for more than 1/4" material, so the UVR has been great. The UVX is exactly the same platform, just higher head height and a few more print modes. The ink is fabulous! No cracking, flaking, etc that you see with some other uv machines, not to mention, the quality is amazing. If you have questions, let me know, I'd be more than happy to help out.
no one has asked for anything thicker, the only reason for thicker is to print on one of a kind things like doors and window blinds, we tested that market with no luck. We run all day long on everthing less than 1/4", also no problem with banners and cloth. Nothing else out there for less than $450,000 to get started in this market.
But anyway... all i want to know is how can you claim that banners are ok? ;) I have seen and tested so many UV machines and not ONE, not a single ONE could offer me no cracking/peeling on banners. It was ok as long as it was not heat-welded around the sides or folded.
Even Vutek, claiming i can do banners with the 320/400 failed.
And the thing is that i know it's possible to make fully flex UV inks because i use such in screen printing and that is just plain amazing.
But i will look at the UVX/UVR in January. However i will see that in the Oce version because the local Colorspan dealer simply blows.
Haha... Seattle :) Gosh, gotta visit Seattle once when i'm in the US. I get a lot of good records from eBay mostly from Seattle-based folks. Plus i've always been a great Sonics fan, not to mention Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Screaming Trees and what not ;)
