Seiko colorpainter 64s vs Hp DJ 9000s

Hello,

The colorpainter 64s was a very successful printer and  heralded the DJ 9000s. I'm looking at buying either at a good second value (less than $5000). I understand that both are discontinued.

I've searched the net for the exact difference between the 2 as I know they are not 100% same. However I've been unable to find information about this.

I'll appreciate if anyone with a knowledge of these 2 printers can offer knowledge and advice as to the one to go for between the 2.

Thanks

HP 9000s - USB port
Seiko - SCSI

Different ink chip
different but similar firmware

Thanks. But of the 2, which would you prefer to buy?

I think the bulk ink thing favours the seiko more than the HP. I may be wrong. Thanks

It's half a dozen of one and 6 or the other.  As long as you throw a maintenance kit at them every now an then and do your cleaning either of them will do the trick.

Personally I'm not a big fan of SCSI (Seiko 64s) but that would be my only complain.

For me DJ 9000 is much better!

Printouts are really better then on Seiko!
I know that because I have both!
It is (almost) same hardware, but with different firmware.

HP engineers did something, resulting 9000 prints much better then Colorpainter.

Ofcourse here you are talking about buying used machine - in this case it depends in what shape are it's heads / whole machine - was it maintained good!

And on the end I'll say that HP has USB connection and Seiko ****ing SCSI...

The SCSI on the Seiko 64s is a real pain in the neck.

Here are the steps required

1 Finding and adaptec 68 pin Ultrawide SCSI Card,, GOOD LUCK! (even on Ebay)

2. I Found one on Ebay that was 50 pin external with 68 pin internal. $25
Had to Buy a 68 pin internal cable to 68 pin external mounted on an L Bracket $20

3 Windows XP picks up the card, but card does not pass the data.

4 Shut down computer and pull the SCSI Card

5 restart the Computer

6 Shut down computer and reinstall the card

Bingo you are in business

7. The latest Adaptec Driver update for xp is 5.6. something.

If I could do it all over again, i would have bought a used HP 9000 if for no other
reason than the USB.

Get a HP 9000 and when you find one Pay a Tech to look at the machine before you buy it.
