most probably ink starvation.  defect ink or air leak in lines,  try swapping ink lines to eliminate if its the ink or head.

Hi Matt
I have a problem almost the same but it is not electrical,
Half of the yellow head dissapear but if i make trong clean it come again,
If you think it is electrical it can be the head board
Thanks

This kind of problam is related to air leak.
Probably from deformed cap.

If cap doesn't seal head good, pump beneath it wan't make good negative pressure (suck ink from secondary tank) and you'll get ink starvation.

Problem might also be if you have 1st generation of heads, where is air leak usual on deformed "o" ring that is supposed to seal ink tube connection!

There are connections on dumper (and dumper itself ofcourse) but it is less likely...

Your right, maybe its a good time to look at the basics.
On an HP 9000 you can purchase maintenance kits, these need to be put in every year or two depending on how much you flog the machine.

How long has it been since you've replaced any caps, primers or wipers?

OK, you say that it is not air and that you excluded cables - one thing that is left is PBA!

But how can you be sure that it is not air leak on cappers (seal not good) - this is hard to prove (see), almost impossible!

Only way you can be sure is if the cappers are new!
Or if you shut off printer (in this moment fill cap performes), pull capping station downn (by the belt) and move head carriage from it's position - in this way you can see if capper is filled with ink or empty. If it is empty or half full, then you have air leak problem on capper! Ofcourse you do this manually, when machine is powered off!
All other is assumption!

No it's not electronic  -  it's those small Gremlins that you get with all machines...

Hi Mett
I hope you are still with us,
did you try to replace the ink cart ?
It can cause the printer not to print on a one color
