Returning

Does anyone want to plan a caravan return to Lake Village? We are in Atlanta and would probably go 1-59. Can anyone confirm or deny road closures? We need to watch out for each other so let me know what you are doing.

I can tell you for a fact that there is no gas south of Jackson, Ms. NONE. I had a friend try to get through this morning but was unable and had to turn back.

I wouldn't suggest returning to the area. I had to go back into Slidell to get my boyfriend's grandmother. It is very serious down there. I went into the neighborhood and was able to see my house. It was fine. No visible roof damage and nothing blown away or fallen in. I know you can get gas in Baton Rouge if you really want to go back. Expect to do a lot of walking around you may have to park at the entrance and walk. But they are allowing people off the interstate at gause. Be prepared... I never imagined Slidell the way it is right now. Bring a lot of water... prepare to get stuck there.

They say to not return without a gun. People will car jack you and take you gas, food, money, etc. No phones, no power you are cut off from any communication so you are on your own.  Friend returned this evening and got in fine. He plans to return tomorrow with his family who mostly lost everything in the areas they live in (Parents & sister live in the Rigoles Estates). Read my post "news from someone who got into Lake Village" sound promising in the neighborhood but I am still scared to return this soon to stay.

I haven't heard about any violence in Slidell. I have heard about looting but how bad is it?

If anyone has any information regarding this let us know.

6:06 A.M. - James Hartman, St. Tammany Parish spokesman: The parish has had few problems with unrest. Some citizens are frustrated, but we’ve had little looting and mostly a spirit of cooperation.
6:05 A.M. - James Hartman, St. Tammany Parish spokesman: Gas leaks still rampant, needing to be repaired.
6:04 A.M. - Hartman: "We have no fuel. People are coming here and running out of gas."
6:02 A.M. - Hartman: We have taken over a radio station - AM 730, by authority of the parish president and trying to broadcast information to the Northshore.
6:00 A.M. - Hartman: People need to stay away and if they haven’t left, they need to get away right now.
