Hello to all! I'm Johnboy - I started this message board years ago (2004 I guess) when I first got my Seiko Colorpainter. When Hurricane Katrina hit I lost that printer but was able to get a demo from Seiko for a good price. I have no major problems with that printer... until now.

I am suffering from what I think is an issue with the capping station. Every cartridge is suddenly having major nozzle problems. I have not changed it since 2005 so I would imagine this is the problem. The pump is making a louder noise now and nozzles appear to have either starvation issues or are clogged.

1. Does anyone know how to change out the capping station without an adjustment tool? A local service guy said it is necessary but is it really?

2. What is the best price you've seen on this assembly?

Hi JB!

I have changed capping station twice without any tool (ofcourse I don't mean on screwdriver).

Mark position of capping station and replaced it on same spot.

But no matter motor is loud, if it works it works.
Question is in what state are tubes inside pumps...

Who knows. I may try to get a used capping station off a printer that is no longer in use. Otherwise I'm going to part out this printer...

I just replaced O rings on supply lines and mine is printing better than ever. Not too tough.

Is your pump motor making noises or are the Pumps making the noises?

I was having issues with clogged nozzles, and the yellow and cyan caps were not draining properly.

Check the position of the caps to the print heads.

Check the caps for proper drainage.

Ultimately I removed the caps and tray, then pulled and cleaned the pump and all lines.

Be very careful removing the small tubes from the cap tray and solenoid fittings.
they will snap in an instant.
I used flush on the OD of all lines as a lubricant to ease the removal of the retaining sleeves/collars.

The Caps:

I am cheap, so I used acetone to clean the tray, lines, caps and filament.
Pull the filament from the cap and with a spray bottle you can blast the filament clear.

Upon reassembly the Caps were the last items to re install.
Make sure the cap tray is absolutely clean and dry, then re install the boots, then install the caps.
Acetone works nicely.

Final step was to do a cap fill and I let it set over night.

One other thing.

The Pump lines do wear out.
You can order the 4x6 line from triangle. (sell sheet, seiko, tyg4x6)
I believe the cost is under $20 for 10'.
Seiko also sell a brand new pump with the tubing for $40 each.

Do not forget to clean the pump casing and put a small dab of lubricant on each pinion /roller.
Also refer to the service manual for roller positioning.

C=3-9 o clock M=6-12 o clock then repeat sequence.
