average salary

I was wondering how much on average, a digital printing operator is paid.
Here, in the south of europe i'm paid 1300 Euros a month in my pocket.
I'm a graphic designer who knows perfectly all the good software photoshop, illustrator, x-press, etc.. Fast, I' m also able to create ICC profiles for the machines and can deal with all the buggy files where some others think they will never be able to print it.
I train four other people who are not as experienced as i am (4 years in the digital printing business) and my company tries not to phone me when i'm at home or on holiday, but fails to do that. They wait my return to deal with all the problems.
Is it fair?

thomas, please define fair.

fair is only what you let the company get away with. this works two-fold, as they will only pay you what your market value is in your own country and also more importantly what they think that can get away with, being the least!!

you must have websites which can value what a position is worth and what the going rate is. try these.

Thomas... This is soooo relative. My operator receives 2.50 Euro per hour in his pocket. (is it called net salary in english?). That's quite a lot here in my city. It is the 2nd biggest city but only 120 km from the capital. But in the capital the average wages are 2 times higher.

I guess the average monthly pay in my country is something like 300 Euro i think. My DTP designers get from 400 to 600 Euro monthly, depending on rank/responsibility. A guy that does only packing and general help around the place gets approx 200-250. The richest are the guys who go around the country and wrap vehicles - they can go up to a 1000.

I'm much more curious about prices of materials you buy from your suppliers ;)

Yes that is what i also wanted to know, what is the salary in the east, the ouest,etc..

It's interesting, here somebody who is just packing cutting the posters, etc will earn between 1000 Euros and 1300 Euros.
What i see joshie is that you pay nearly the double your designers compairing to the person who cuts, pack, etc..

The situation here is that there are so many graphic designers that the value of their work is not really different from a person who passes the hoover at the end of the day in the office...
Joshie are you working in Krakowie (sorry, don't remember the correct spelling)?

oh man, 10 years? wow, a lot has changed throughout that time. you'd be surprised. just don't go to warsaw... it sucks. it's not like Paris and France. Paris is really worthy a visit, but Warsaw... Less interesting than Brussels and probably more expensive too.

Cracow is the best choice in my opinion.

if you are a good designer you should command a good wage............if you are a poor designer you should be happy with what you are offered............if you are modestly better than average but not the best around, you should negotiate a higher wage than anybody else in the shop, including the management, with the knowledge that your work WILL bring in more business and create a buzz about that shop which allows the managment to raise their prices and profit margins..............

.....learn as much as you can about designing outdoor advertising and signage........develope not just program skills, but sales and communication skills............adopt several different styles of ad art and find out when to use them and for what customers and projects.......take more college classes......enter into some design competitions......make yourself an invaluable part of the company and if the company does not see it and reward your work and talent with a real wage that your father is PROUD of, then leave.............find somebody who will or go do it on your own..........

........that ramble being said........i would love to know what the exchange rate is right now for the dollar and the euro........i think months ago i had noticed the euro was kicking the hell out of the dollar............it would be interesting to know on the basis of understanding how various businesses around the globe value their employees in relation to the businesses monthly gross/net...............

Hi guys.

Interesting question as I have not long been working on one of these myself.

I am from an Epson background and as this is a different machine thought it would command a better wage.
