Ink - an issue

I've just been told (admittedly by the bloke trying to flog me Triangle inks) that Seiko have two different manufacturers for ink. One handles the CMYK range and the other the Light Cyan and Light Magenta.

I'm interested in this as as users hearing me whinge repeatedly in the past can attest, 90% of my daily issues with this printer are with drop out and banding on LC and LM heads. Any other problems that I've ever had with any other colours have been due to a fixable problem but the LC and LM issues have been there from day dot and have never gone away, no matter what the techs have done.

He doesn't know this though. Do you think he's spinning me a line? Anyone have the same issues as me?

Opinions, no matter how outrageous or unfounded gratefully accepted.

new one on me, and it doesn't really make sense to have 2 manufacturers.

please keep us all posted with your findings

Phil,

Do let us all know, because we have replaced those LC & LM heads.....REPEATEDLY with no help from the guys at Seiko, we always jus got the runaround an replacement...now we are out of warrenty...so i cant wait to see how this ends up...probably a costly ending...considering they never printed without some banding since we bought the machine.

If they do have less expensive inks for the 100S, let me know so i can buy them! As for the lc & lm I also have had them drop out on many occasions.

i don't think it's a case of having a 2nd manufacturer selling cheaper inks. i've heard that seiko have bundled together the cmyk cartridges as a 3-pack to rival what hp do with their 5x00series. therefore if you want to run your 100s on cmyk only you can buy these multi-packs and potentially save a bit of cash.

I have used Roland AJ1000 for 5-6 days in a exhibition in Delhi, India. Although it uses same seiko heads the ink waste was negligible. Hence I think there is a problem with with the machine and technology.

Hi All, in the end I've not been able to verify my original accusation. Certainly the makeup of the ink is different as it seems light cyan and light magenta carry more solvent in them, and are thus more likely to dry out but it's certainly a long way off having different companies producing the ink. Though looking back at most of the posts and the interest this has generated, it seems there's a problem with light cyan and light magenta that's never really been addressed. I wonder if it's sorted out on the HP9000. Also do 100S users have as many issues with these inks as we do?

The Roland AJ1000 uses the Seiko SBT 510 nozzle head, not the Konica-Minolta 512 nozzle head used on the Seiko 64/100 and HP 9000s.

The Seiko SBT head is widely in use on printers being manufactured by FY Union in China...maker of Infiniti printers.

I have almost never had a problem with my LC LM heads or any heads for that matter. I print the color band on both sides of my jobs. My theory is that the LC LM are used the least and printing the color band on both sides keeps ink flowing through them. Seems to be working.

Printerdude are you referring to the Gutter function in Onyx? Mine only prints CMYK and not the light colours for the gutter. I have no problem with CMYK, just the ones the gutter doesnt print.

talking about the gutter, that is different from the 6-color stripe. i always keep the stripe, and only occasionally use the gutter. the stripe is indeed there to keep all 6 heads firing throughout, so they don't dry up during a print.

sorry if i am stating the obvious here.

guys onyx only prints a 4-color gutter, so it's best to leave the color stripe on in the media settings on the printer. the light colors actually get used more as they are used to infill solids to "trick" the eye into seeing lee white space and therefore more soft grads and transistions.

i would always use the color stripe as this ensures all heads remain printing throughout all jobs irrelevant of want colors they are made up of..
