Head issue after 4-7 feet of printing

After 4-7 feet of printing, one of the heads, and it can be random colors, starts banding and prints past the edge of the media and all over the platen. It is totally random and happens at different times.  It looks like a data issue or scsi issue, but I cannot tell. Has anyone seen this before? This printer is becoming unusable and I would like to get it fixed and working. Thanks.

agreed, especially where the cables go into the internals of the printer. there are sharp edges that wear the out costing away. also check where the retaining clips are tied together as again these wear the edges of the cables away causing this kind of error.

Thanks, I will check them. The odd thing is that it only happens after about 5 ft of printing, never right away when I start a print. I need to find a parts supplier as the machine is out of warranty and I bought it from DGI in Florida. Does anyone know a good source in the west coast USA?

solved. It was the ribbon cables. I replaced all four (took about 30 mins.) and we are running perfectly again. Thanks all for your help and suggestions.

BTW, the cost for the cables was $68 ea (x4) and $15 fedex delivery from Florida to Phoenix from DGS in Florida. The guys name is Jason and he was very good and told me how to change them by taping to the old ones and pulling them all through at the same time.
