Yup- I use it all the time for the outdoor backlit signs that we make. I still prefer to use cut vinyl when possible because it offers more color consistancy from day to night, but the 3850 printed with the seiko's high density mode does the best job of the backlit print vinyls.
Since all of Avery's problems we switched to Oracal across the board (except for wraps- we use 3M). I've been happier with the Oracal than I ever was with avery.

yes Avery transclucent vinyl is crap. It was like trying to print on a mountain range after the media got warm. Unfortunately our sign supplyers around here only sell 3M and Avery. I will have to get from the internet.
