Please explain ink consumption?

360x720 Bidirectional -4 pass    vs    720x720 Bidirectional -4 pass

Do these settings use same amount of ink?

Is more ink consumed by number of passes?

Or does the ink limit control ink usage?

Is there someone out there who can explain in detail how this all works!

First thing you need to know:

CMYK uses less ink than CMYKcm!!!

CMYKOG uses less ink than CMYK

2. lighter print uses less ink than darker (generaly), regardless of resolution.

make 100% C (or any other color) file, and print it on 360 and 720. if 720 print is darker than 360 then more ink is spent...

Hi!

This is my first post, and i'm not yet a user of 64s (but in very near future i will be) - I've got a question - i understand perfectly the ink consumption issue, but i haven't heard yet that CMYKOG is possible with 64s? Are the O & G inks available or do i have to go third party?

Best regards

Josh

as yet seiko do not offer o+g with a 6-color option. you only get lt.m and lt.c which is a better choice as this drastically improves the tonal work and gradations.

i'm sure if you attempt to go 3rd partyyou may void the warranty, as i've heard this romoured with other 3rd party inks available. aslo they may be cheaper but in my experience the quality is always much worse. therefore, yes you pay less, but you end up paying more when the inks ruin the heads.

LC and LM indeed improve gradations, we all know it, but CMYK vs CMYKLL saves ink on some works (where you don't need to look at the print closely) and CMYKOG can use even less ink on some works. Actually i have a lot of work using green colour, so i'd be hugely interested in that. They should also provide us with Blue and Red cartridges - that'd be fun.

And as far as third party is concerned - surely it is sometimes worse, but my experience with third party hard solvent inks is that it's all within some acceptable range. I just have to try the same with 64S, although only from such a third party ink seller that gives me written warranty for the heads when using their ink. And trust me, there are already such ink resellers out there.

Plus, that replacement ink is not that cheap anyway, so it can't be really bad, you know? We're not speaking about some Chinese hard solvents 10$ a litre, rather we're talking about very fine US or European products that are carefully beta-tested before release to market. The actual difference per liter is only about 50% with third party cartridges for Seiko, at least in my region. So i don't think anyone would like to sell liquid crap for 130$ a litre. They want to sell good inks too, you know? ;)

Plus i have a hunch that Seiko is making more money on ink than on machines themselves. I guess that their margin on ink is bigger than what Bill Gates had on Windows ;) I calculated that if i use my CP the way i want to use it, the way i foresee using it, i will pay the same amount of money for ink that i paid for the machine in less than 6 months. Cool, eh?

Thanks
Josh
