drop-outs

What is the forum's experience with jet drop-outs? Is it considered normal to stop printer every 20 minutes to wipe jets and restart? Or is this a local problem? How long can one go without head maintenance?

No it is not normal. 2 possibilities (actually 3)

1.) Mini air leak in the line

2.) Front and Print area temperature too high

3.) Head voltages too high. Has to be taken care of by authorized service.

Most common choice Number 2. Good Luck

one other issue could be that the head is not capping correctly. i have seen that some of the caps don't "spring" up enough to ensure no air gets into the head when not running.

it's a possibility

Seiko rep told me NEVER raise middle heater temp above (45) There trying to change the control of the middle heater temp in the next firmware upgrade because as of now you could raise the temp up to (55) which is possibly the cause of your current problem.

the temperature can be a head killer if above 45 but if you're running full width this is not a big deal. get your rep to check the other issues, as these are probably the main areas of concern

Exactly. Plus the new firmware can actually let you raise the temperature to 60, not only 55. And my settings for banner include the print heater temperature above 50, btw. Never had a problem with that.
