Hey all . I received a designjet 9000s for free. Right now I am doing a lot of cut vinyl decals and aqueous pigment photo stuff and have no experience with wide format printing above a waterbase dj800 or djzd3200.  I am using and amd 64 vista sp2 computer. I am using the latest trial version of shiraz carbon . I installed the echo drivers and windows and shiraz detects the printer. I am able to get the status of the printer and the ink levels. I am able to load media, a 36x 36 piece of oracal 951, and get the printer to say ready to print. I realize ill have to deal with the heads and dried up tubes and pumps ect...

 Im getting a take up reel time out error. In the rip the printer status for take up reel says loose. On the printer menu it says loose. The switch is set to the middle position , the "caliper" is in the up position. All Externally accessible connections and wires appear ok 

 Do I not know how to use it? It did come with original manuals and i have the service manual downloaded and have read both over the last few days and im pretty sure that even if the ink situation was taken care of its still not going to print with that error. Am i right?

Does anybody know what else i can try ?

Ive checked the hardware and tested the tur sensors and me sensors directly in the service menu and tested the direction switch which all worked and gave an immediate state change on the lcd display every time.
