very weird thing with CS 6060

Hello folks, it's been a long time, huh? Yes, haven't been here awhile, there were no problems and i had other duties. But now i'm back.

In the meantime my two machines only had the flat string cables replaced, twice, because they are wearing out so quickly. Oh well. But that would not be something to talk about, really.

The new problem is very weird. I can't really say why it happens. It looks like ghosts or echoes :) Like a certain line of the image is delicately repeated earlier or later in the image, and it is usually one colour, most frequently light magenta or light cyan.

Just take a look at this one (i have more examples, if anyone wants, see more samples here.)

So, what do you think about that? Have you ever had that experience? Sometimes it's ghosts and reflections, repetitions like this in light magenta, sometimes in light cyan. Sometimes you happen to be lucky to avoid this in a very short printout, but the long ones just have it. And it happened out of the blue! No RIP change (it's independent of RIP), no cable change, no firmware change, nothing that i know of.

Please help :)

Hello guys, just a quick update.

I know this one makes very little sense, but still, it seems to be working now. An Oce tech told me that i should adjust the transfer rate of my SCSI card. I'm using Adaptec 29160 (actually two cards to run two machines). So he said that i should set them at 40 MB transfer, not the normal 160. Now after this has been done, the problem disappeared for a relatively large nubmer of prints. I'm still waiting for feedback from the second shift whether there are any problems or not.

BUt in the meantime, do tell me if anyone of you had similar troubles?

There was a post by digifuzzi on March 10 that seems to be the same thing. He hasn't logged on since the 13th though.

Well, it seems that after we changed the SCSI speed from 160 to 40, the problem was gone just for a day. Let's see where we are at it:

1) it's independent of RIP
2) it's independent of profile or media
3) it's independent of voltage
4) it's independent of time of day
5) it's independent of resetting the machine
6)... it seems that everyone who actually has this kind of trouble (me and Digifuzzi so far) has Adaptec 29160 card.

What card do you folks use?

Joshie, has this problem gone away for you? I'm starting to get this on my machine now. Did adjusting the SCSI card do the trick? We just had our flat cables replaced and it seems to happen more often now, but I also saw it a couple of times before they were replaced.

As i'm not at the company on a regular basis now, i will look into that in the next couple of days and let you know. From what i heard, after the last visit of the service guy now it's much better. I have to find out what he did.

this looks like classic data transfer error. do any of the lines actually protrude out the edge of the images? i would say that possible the longer data cables, more probably the smaller carriage board to head cables, but also the main carriage board itself.

I am having a similar issue but not as shown above but just randomly through prints I get a miscolored 1/8 inch line though a portion of the print. I have been using the same SCSI cable and card since we purchased the machine more than a year ago and this has just started happing.
